Dr Mark Wilson is based at the University of Bath and his research is situated within CAST themes 1 & 3. He also works at the University’s Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change and co-leads the Accelerating Social Change theme at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.
Mark conducts interdisciplinary, applied research on perceptions and behaviour in relation to climate change. He works with a wide range of partners to measure engagement in climate actions and to design interventions to encourage low-carbon behaviours.
His three main areas of research are:
- Local authority climate policy – He collaborates with local councils and voluntary sector organisations to co-develop and evaluate behaviour change pilots around travel and diet.
- Sustainability in sport – He works with sports organisations and professional & grass roots clubs to understand how they can reduce their carbon footprint, adapt to climate impacts, and motivate fans to adopt low-carbon behaviours.
- Community climate action – He supports community climate hubs to develop and evaluate their peer learning model for engaging the public on climate change.
Prior to joining CAST, Mark completed his PhD at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, University of East Anglia. His thesis explored the adoption, use, and climate implications of online food hubs. Mark has participated in community food initiatives in Denmark and Sweden, where he taught an undergraduate course applying permaculture design techniques to develop sustainable urban food systems.
